The MIT INSPIRE competition received so many excellent submissions from all over the country this year! The INSPIRE Team and our committee of experts who evaluated all of the projects are pleased by the significant depth, breadth and scope of your research topics. We want to congratulate ALL participants for embarking on and successfully completing this research journey. This is, in itself, an impressive accomplishment – each of you has demonstrated the ability to think critically, innovate, and engage in meaningful inquiry in a humanistic, artistic, or societal topic. You persisted in tackling your research questions and in the process, have gained invaluable experience that will come in handy in college and beyond. Along with your mentors, teachers, parents and friends, we are very proud of you and the work you have produced.
This year, we have identified approximately 105 Finalist projects that can advance to the final round of competition to be held from April 10-12, 2017 at MIT in Cambridge. The INSPIRE Team is planning an enriching lineup of programs for INSPIRE 2017 and we can’t wait to see Finalists on campus. In the coming days, we will send out specific instructions to Finalists on next steps including additional forms that must be submitted, access to the Finalist Handbook, and travel award announcements.
We have also identified a list of Alternates who may be able to participate should some Finalists decide to drop out of the competition. In such cases, Alternates will receive a notification and invitation via email based on category, on a case-by-case basis towards the end of March.
We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to the MIT INSPIRE committee of experts, ranging from professors and alumni to post-doctoral fellows and graduate students in thirteen different fields. Each year, they enthusiastically take the time out of their busy schedules to assess projects and provide thorough evaluations in a timely manner. We are truly indebted to them.
Finally, a word of thanks to your mentors. They inspire you, and provide support and guidance throughout the year. They are committed to helping you bring out the best in yourself. The INSPIRE team appreciates their participation and invites all mentors to the Mentor Development Workshop to be held on April 11, 2017 at MIT during the INSPIRE 2017 event.
Once again, we congratulate you for participating in the MIT INSPIRE 2017 competition.
(Please note that all decisions by judges are final.)
